A Presentation Fit for a Gladiator – Top 5 Ways to Win the Crowd!

Proximo: I wasn’t the best because I killed quickly. I was the best because the crowd loved me. Win the crowd and you win your freedom.

Maximus: I will win the crowd. I will give them something they’ve never seen before.

From the Hollywood film, Gladiator, 2000.

Isn’t this what it’s all about? Winning your audience and achieving your goals? Sure, you say, but just how will I do that?

We can’t create miracles in a list of 5 tips, but if we take some cues from Maximus, we can get you on the right path. So here is the trailer version of delivering a great presentation. For the full director’s cut, you’ll have to give us a call.

Gladiator Tip #1: Give them something they’ve never seen before. Create an unexpected emotion or experience and you are 50% of the way towards winning the crowd.

Gladiator Tip #2: Prepare. No one wins the battle without first taking time to ready the sword skills. Taking the time to prepare your presentation is the best investment you’ll make.

Gladiator Tip #3: It’s all about the story. Build a plot for your presentation complete with leading characters, conflict, and resolution. Your audience will be on the edge of their seats!

Gladiator Tip #4: Look them in the eye. They’re not man-eating tigers, they’re your audience and they’re the ones you have to convince. The ceiling, floor, and your Powerpoint slides don’t have a vote.

Gladiator Tip #5: Be yourself. Your audience wants to get to know you. So, let that guard down a bit and let your personality shine. Trust us, they’ll be chanting your name.
